Kaarina

Kaarina is a friendly little town with a population of around 30,000 and is not far from the city of Turku, the former capital of Finland. Its location on the south-west coast of Finland and its many green areas mean that it has a very pleasant atmosphere. Its central location and diverse landscape make Kaarina a perfect environment for children and young people to grow up in. There are several secondary schools, two high schools and two vocational training schools. Kaarina has a lot to offer in terms of education and leisure activities and it also benefits from the fact that it is located near the lively city of Turku which is the fifth biggest city in Finland.

Construction work began on SOS Children's Village Kaarina in August 2002 and was completed after just 14 months in October 2003. Up to 50 children can live in the nine family houses. The first children moved into their new homes in December 2003. The village also has a Community House, a playground, a sports area and ample room for many different activities. It is located very close to a small bathing lake and about half a kilometre from the sea.
